The success of all non-profits depends on developing and executing a plan for the future.  Historic Macon Foundation follows a strategic plan to efficiently and effectively accomplish our mission.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation helped our trustees and staff formulate the attached plan based on extensive surveys, focus groups, individual interviews, assessing threats and opportunities and looking to our peer institutions to adopt best practices.  Historic Macon depends on your support to implement any and all of these goals. Click here to read the plan in its entirety.

Here are the highlights of the new plan:

  • Implementing a new Mission statement- The mission of Historic Macon is to advocate for Macon's historic and architectural heritage, to facilitate preservation efforts in our community, and to educate and inspire appreciation for our unique city.
  • Achieving five well-focused goals, in order- Preservation and Preservation Services(p.13), Financial and organizational(p.17), Membership(p.19), Marketing and Image(p.21) and the Cottage(p.22).
  • Delivering professional preservation- Fundraising events are necessary to keep the organization running.  In the future, HMF commits that events will be volunteer led and mission-based.  Our reputation will be for professional preservation work, facilitation and advocacy, not events.

One of our stakeholders challenged us in this process to develop a plan that will make us the leading local preservation organization in the state in five years.  We strongly believe that we have adopted such a plan.  And why shouldn't we be the best?  After all, we have more to save and more to care about than any other city in our state.
