We believe that people fall in love with places and their stories. Part of what we do at Historic Macon is provide education to tell those stories. We provide this education through publications, which may be purchased on our gift shop, either online or at the Sidney Lanier Cottage at 935 High St., Macon, GA. Seasonally, we host "Sidney's Salons" to bring art, music, poetry and literature to life. Other events include hard hat tours, interpretive tours of buildings, lectures and rambles. Read below to find out what educational events are coming up soon. For sale now! Historic Macon's annual calendar is a great way to experience Macon's architectural heritage every month. Sidney's Salons are a popular educational series run by Historic Macon Foundation to honor the memory of Sidney Lanier and foster intellectual inquiry in our community through writing, history, music and poetry. This Fall includes three great Salons. Join us at 5:30pm for a wine and cheese reception with friends and neighbors with the main event beginning promptly at 6pm. Admission is free for Historic Macon members and $5 for non-members and $3 for students. LecturesEach spring and fall, Historic Macon offers special lectures featuring local experts on topics of interest to our members and area residents. Most often lectures focus on history, renowned local architects and architecture, and historic gardens and gardening. Oral History ProjectSo many of our personal stories are lost when our loved ones pass away or move away. So for several years now we have recorded the stories of local residents – most of who were born and raised in Macon. I f you know anyone who has a story to tell that would shed light on life in Macon, please call (478) 742-5084 and we will send out a crew to record their stories. The stories are available for public broadcasting at the discretion of Historic Macon. |
