Historic Macon Foundation depends on the generosity of many small donors to make our work possible. We are efficient and effective with every donation. One of the easiest ways to support our work is by attending one of our mission-related preservation events. You can enjoy good company, a historic venue and a tax deduction for your contribution. Please join us for one of the events below.  Check our Calendar for committee meeting times.

Fall Sidney's Salon Series: "Fall For Poetry Again", 5:30pm

Front page of Sidney's Salon Brochure

The Fall Salon Series kicks off on Tuesday, September 14th with Dr. David Fillingim, who will present his book Georgia Cowboy Poets. Settle in, and travel with Fillingim to some place west of wherever you are, and enjoy this unique combination of shrewd scholarly analysis and heartwarming cowboy poetry.

Sidney Lanier (1842-1881) was a writer, poet, musician, soldier and mathematician and he was born in the Sidney Lanier Cottage at 935 High Street in Macon, Georgia.  In honor of Lanier’s legacy, the owners of the Cottage, Historic Macon Foundation, have established the Lanier Center for Literary Arts.  In addition to sponsoring writers’ workshops and other literary events, Historic Macon has a regular series of book signings.  For this series, entitled Sidney’s Salons, the Foundation invites well-known authors and bright, up and coming authors to read, answer questions and sign books.   Sidney’s Salons take place almost every month on the second Tuesday of the month.  A wine and cheese reception begins at 5:30 pm and the program begins promptly at 6 pm.  Admission is free for Historic Macon Members, $5 for non-members and $3 for students.

33rd Annual Flea Market

FleaMarket

For 32 years now, preservation efforts in Macon have depended on the annual flea market and its team of volunteer superheroes.  Our donated 8,000 square-foot showroom still has plenty of space for donations.  We are especially looking for a few angel donors to supply some items for auction, like used cars, fine antiques, rugs, boats or anything else of value.  As always, donations to the flea market are deductible from your taxes and help support our mission.  Please email Daniel today at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call us at (478) 742-5084 to make arrangements for your donations to this year's sale.  The sale will be held on October 16, 2010 (preview on October 15) so mark your calendars now!

The Reynolds Mansion Retreat, November 20-22, 2010, Sapelo Island, GA

Reynolds MansionHistoric Macon Foundation has a long-standing tradition of visiting Sapelo Island to stay at the Reynolds Mansion.  This year's retreat will be held on Saturday-Monday, November 20-22, 2010.  The entire mansion and its chef are reserved only for Historic Macon.  The event includes all meals and we usually have a black-tie dance or costume party on one evening.  It is always memorable and a very fun way to celebrate historic preservation.  Only a few spaces remain, so please email Janis Haley at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you are interested in attending and have not reserved your space.  You may use the buttons below to pay your deposit or the fee in full, if you already have a confirmed reservation.
