Historic Macon Foundation is a grass-roots organization that depends on hundreds of donors and dozens of volunteers to save historic places.  The most common way that our members volunteer to support our mission is through advocacy.  We keep you informed about historic preservation, economic development and smart growth so that you can express your priorities to decision makers.  Emails, individual calls, letters can change our community.  Many other members prefer to be involved in planning and executing fundraising events.  Our preservation events raise much of our operating budget and anyone can help make these events a success.  If you would like to help, consider attending our Properties committee for advocacy or our Events committee.  You can see the list of all our committees and their meeting times on our Committees page.

Common volunteer activities include:

  • Advocating for historic preservation with community leaders
  • Planning and executing events like the Decorator's Showhouse, hard hat tours of rehabilitation projects and special events
  • Mailings and office help
  • Serving as a volunteer on one of our active committees

We can also use volunteers for other recurring needs such as:

Duty Time Commitment
Cottage docent One day per week or one day per month
Gift Shop attendant One day per week or one day per month
