Young Preservationist (YP) Mission Statement

To bring together young professionals and instill in them a sense of the history and heritage that makes their community unique and develop the value of preserving and conserving the best of that community inheritance. To unite young adults who share a passion for historic preservation and empower them to impact and influence our community through service, education, and social activities.

Who are YPs?

Young preservationists are young professionals that are looking for an outlet to serve the community and make a difference. They have an interest in historic preservation and want to increase their knowledge and skills in this area. Young Preservationists are also looking for opportunities to socialize with other like-minded young professionals. They sponsor one event a month. All events have an educational component revolving around the history of Macon and Middle Georgia.

The Young Preservationists welcome the young at heart at all of their activities.

Activities

Service Projects

YPs organize service projects that allow members to contribute to the Middle Georgia Community and especially to impact the preservation and conservation of the historic resources of the Middle Georgia area.

• Mardi Gras Soiree & Auction fundraiser to support Historic Macon
• Christmas Tree Recycle Removal Program fundraiser to support Historic Macon
• Participation in Staffing the Historic Macon Decorator Showhouse
• Staffing “move-in weekend” for the Historic Macon Flea Market
• Neighborhood clean-ups
• Staffing Bragg Jam Music Festival venue’s for ticket sales

  Education Activities

• Lectures and tours to increase participants’ knowledge of the history and heritage of the Middle Georgia area
• Hands on workshops that focus on restoration skills

  Social Activities

• YPs have a minimum of 4 parties a year that allow you to meet people who share your passion for preservation

  Goals & Objectives

• Tie an educational event to all of our activities
• Increase volunteer base in our community
• Increase potential leadership for Historic Macon Foundation
