HMF’S TOOL LIBRARY IS A BIG HIT

Reed Purvis explains to WMAZ-TV’s Suzanne Lawler how HMF’s new tool program works.

Our Tool Library is here for you.

If you need a tool for a weekend project, you can borrow one from us FOR FREE once you set up an account on the MyTurn website and reserve the tool. You'll have to punch in a credit card number too.

Residents can borrow a wide assortment of tools, from lawnmowers and leaf blowers to drills and power saws. You pick up the tool at our shop, at 909 Second St.

You can pick up a tool from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays, or you can make an appointment online and we’ll meet you at the shop to pick it up.

It’s part of an ambitious initiative to boost the trades presence in Macon. Last summer, Historic Macon Rehabs hired three preservation carpentry apprentices for a 10-week program, training them for entry-level construction jobs. We’ve also had Saturday workshops to equip homeowners with the knowledge to tackle basic projects on their own. A grant from the Watson-Brown Foundation funded the pilot programs.

The program was able to stretch its buying dollars thanks to a generous discount on tools from Riverside Ace Hardware.

ONE MORE THING: If you have a few hours a week and could help staff our tool library, we would be grateful. Just fill out the form below by clicking the button, then send it our way. Or email Reed Purvis at rpurvis@historicmacon.org, letting him know of your interest.
