The splendid book by James E. Barfield and Walter G. Elliott, "Mid-Century Macon 1945-1969," is delighting readers across Macon — and Georgia. It’s the latest achievement for the publishing tandem, who also joined forces to produce “Living Macon Style” and the “Architectural Works of W. Elliott Dunwody, Jr., FAIA.”

The 180-page book features an intimate look at 40 of Macon's most well-known mid-century modern homes, from Nottingham Drive to Hillandale Circle and beyond, as well as other prominent sites across town that incorporate the popular architectural style.

“A remarkable number of Mid-Century structures remain in Macon,” the book’s introduction says. “Several of those are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and all of them deserve to be. This book is a tribute to those buildings and the architects who designed them. It is our hope that readers will examine the text and photographs presented here and learn more about Mid-Century Modern architecture, understand and appreciate it more, and will commit to helping preserve it so future generations are able to experience and enjoy it.”
